Arc’teryx Release New Avalanche Jetpack
Arc’teryx created serious buzz in the snowsports community with the release of their Voltair Avalanche Airbag. But they’re not a brand to rest on their laurels. Blasting onto the scene is an ambitious upgrade that is set to revolutionize snow carry and demonstrates significant potential for applications further afield.
Known for pushing design forward through technology-driven innovation, Arc’teryx more than live up to their reputation with the Avalanche Jetpack. There’s no denying the ‘Jetpack’ holds a curiously similar model name to competition Black Diamond’s ‘JetForce’ series, but that’s where the similarities end. An impressive design that has been 11 years in the making, the Jetpack does away completely with the need for avalanche airbags to protect users.
Instead the pack incorporates cutting-edge technology from NASA in the form of a lightweight jet propulsion engine that produces enough thrust to safely and effectively propel skiers and snowboarders from danger.
Arc’teryx have worked closely with NASA scientists to deliver a bag that is reliable and durable without massive weight compromises. The pack contains enough jet fuel for three bursts, while still remaining light and comfortable enough to facilitate easy movement. Being Arc’teryx, this is also a well-rounded pack with practical carry features too including pocketing for gear and attachment points for skis.
The Jetpack will be available for pre-order from mid-June (retail price currently undisclosed).

[Editor’s Note: Happy 1 April! 😉 For this post we’ve tweaked a concept design from world-renowned designer Marc Newson. We definitely recommend checking out his great work.]
