The Gear We Use Every Day
…of these some weeks. Shopping, car trips, works samples, anything. Travel CamelBak Tri-Zip. This bag is even better than the Mystery Rancg 3DAP because of the pocketing. It looks too tactical for work trips, but dang it’s good for other travel. . Samsonite Lite-Cube 82cm spinner (or Firelite). This is a workhorse for luggage that lets me load stuff on top for trolley-free travel with my family. I wish the casters held even heavier loads. Outlier…
Mission Workshop :: Carry Awards Interview
…d tools in situations of high activity. The category has been commanded by CamelBak and a couple of others for like forever and seems kind of stagnant. We’re excited about implementing some ideas in an area that has been left out of innovation’s eye for quite some time. Are you taking bets for anyone who might get drunk and make a fool of themselves in the comments section of this year’s awards? CUI is considered forbidden by the company rule book…
Origin Story: Reflecting On Our First Decade
…. Tell me what ya think,” Andy said. The next week, it was replaced with a CamelBak Tri-Zip. The next, a Mission Workshop Arkiv Modular Pack. And on it went, week after week. I spent those early days consuming all of the past articles, immersing myself in the community the guys had built. Learning about the brands they gushed over, and finding out why they were so special, so cutting-edge. I digitally met our team across the Pacific: Catherine, Jo…
Finding Aichaku In The Apex
…p (such as a fun ukulele I’d spotted for sale). The pack I was carrying (a CamelBak Tri-Zip – a design licensed from the Mystery Ranch 3-Zip design pioneered in the early 2000s) swallowed it whole, which was impressive enough. But then when I needed my dSLR in a hurry (kids do the darndest things!), it magically parted to let me grab the camera from the base of the main compartment in a snap. Before the 3-zip design, you typically had to choose ei…

Best Running Vests of 2020
…better runner and a way smarter person, gifted me her ex-boyfriend’s ratty CamelBak vest and it quickly changed my trail running life. Although I don’t always run with a vest, having the option to bring extra food, water, dog supplies, or even sometimes a GoPro makes the search for the perfect running vest something worth doing. Whether the pandemic has forced you to look for an exercise outlet extending past the doors of your gym or you’re a seas…

…lled on the belt, and the hydration compartment empty and ready to carry a Camelbak 3L bladder whenever we’re heading out to do stuff. I keep a knife, flashlight, Leatherman, first-aid kit, pen, notepad, a lighter, hand-i-wipes, and bike multi-tool in the Stash-it pockets. (After the Mad Max gasoline wars I’ll make my way as a bicycle mechanic) This way all the sharp, TSA unapproved stuff is on the belt, which comes off in seconds for last-minute…

…t there like the EVOC Explorer Pro 30L, Mission Workshop “The Hauser” 14L, CamelBak H.A.W.G. Pro 20, Osprey SYNCRO line, Oveja Negra Portero, and the Wingnut Adventure pack. These all vary in size and materials, but they are mainly focused on cycling. Verdict The Ortlieb Atrack BP has exactly what it needs to perform its purpose as a bikepacking/adventure travel backpack while being streamlined, lightweight, rugged, and extremely comfortable. All…
Aer City Pack Review
…full, it can be difficult to get my water bottle in there. I usually carry CamelBak’s Eddy+ 25oz Bottle and it fits really snug. Verdict The City Pack walks a nice line between techwear and techy. Aer makes the straightforward layout and functionality feel cool. If you’re in need of a compact and well-built pack for work or school, this could be a good option. Road Tests :: TAD FAST Pack Litespeed Backpack
…hat hot, there is a smart hydration pouch that works well with my existing CamelBak bladder with insulated tube. I like how the port for the bladder tube is a beefy flap of Hypalon fabric (serious heavy-duty stuff). It’s perfect for taking to a music festival, camping, or traveling on a multiple-day trip. Judging by the fit, comfort, and construction, it could be great for a soldier out in the field. I’m not a soldier, so this is just speculation….

…e side pockets instead of more common stretch material. Still, I can fit a CamelBak flask or Grayl filtering bottle in there. The pockets are finished with a bungee-cord cinch system and feature a drain hole with a small grommet (a must if open pockets are made of waterproof fabric). Also, the Kevlar-reinforced bottom should do the trick against rocks and ice. There are two compression straps on each side and full-length daisy chains with ice-tool…

…r, wet/dry bag with my sunscreen, beach towel, and Kindle. I also filled a Camelbak bladder with ice water and fed the hose through the top magnetic opening. This was my solution to the lack of a water bottle pocket and I will not go back to bringing a water bottle. At the end of the day I strapped my towel to the outside of the pack and was still able to fit the bag in the bottom of the stroller because of the sleek design. The Good There is so…

…ne of these amazing packs in person when it arrives via post. Jamie at the CamelBak booth provided me with a serious military tough H.A.W.G. backpack (in black) to put to through the test. I’ve got some things planned for this one, and the 100+F temps will absolutely make the 3L of water it accommodates greatly appreciated. …trimming the fat. The pack currently resides in my trunk, complete with a Camelbak Antidote bladder, headlamp, knife, pants, and pull-over fleece. It’s lightweight, can hold a ton if needed, or strap down nice and compact. It has just the right features. Although it’s not perfectly suited to my fit preferences, those are minor complaints and don’t detract from the usefulness of the pack. Editor’s Note: If you want to peel a whole grip of photos t…
