Carry Trainspotting at SXSW ’12
Crowd spotting carry options
Festivals and events are awesome for checking out carry. Everyone rocks up with a day’s worth of stuff, and it’s often creative and interesting folk. So Taylor figured he’d snap away and share some of the pieces for your home viewing pleasure.
The photos taken are of carry examples on the streets of Austin, TX and in parties during the South by Southwest Interactive, Film, and Music Festival.
A few notes:
– There were so many Herschel bags around that I didn’t even take pictures of them. I didn’t spot any of their examples made from Cordura nylon, if I did, I would’ve snapped a photo.
– I was shocked by the amount of Jansport packs I saw. Many were old (showing their age and patina), but many were fresh and brand new, suggesting a big spike in trendiness for the brand.
– Military/tactical bags are growing in popularity, especially in the Northeastern part of the USA. I met 5 people with Maxpedition bags from Brooklyn.
– People didn’t hesitate for a moment when I asked what brand their bag was. Almost declaring the brand name with a sense of pride. Carry is important to people.
(Above: The last two photos taken on Saturday night, around 2AM. I almost didn’t add them, but the blurriness captures the feel adequately.)
