Sustainability Without Sacrifice

The shell of a jacket is the first thing anyone looks at. What’s it made out of? How does it perform? The Ventile® Cotton shell that LIVSN has chosen is a high-performance cotton fabric with a very special weave. Originally developed for use in World War II by the British military, it’s made from long-staple, densely woven fibers, keeping the wearer cool and comfortable while still being warm and water resistant. These Ventile® Cotton kits kept pilots alive as they flew through the skies, and potentially behind enemy lines. It’s a high-tech heritage material that performs just as well, if not better, than many other modern textiles. If it can ascend Everest, which it did in 1953, it can survive your toughest adventures. This particular variant is coated in a PFC-free C0 DWR, and every seam is taped for increased weather resistance.

The back side of the sustainable sandwich is none other than 100% silk. While we often associate silk with high fashion and formal wear, it’s too often overlooked for how great it is as a performance textile. It’s naturally breathable, which works in sync with the HD® Wool to provide thermoregulation, while having great moisture-wicking properties, keeping you comfy and dry. Also, let’s be honest, it is super luxe and it feels great against the skin.

For insulation, LIVSN has opted for ethically sourced HD® Wool. We love wool both for its moisture-wicking and odor-inhibiting properties, and HD® Wool dials that up to 11. By using a high-density weaving process, it’s much more durable and resistant to wear and tear than more traditional wool fabrics, while also being less susceptible to pilling and shredding. It’s the perfect insulation for the rigors of the outdoors.
