Dig or Diss | Airport Laptop Issues
So this is a Diss, we never like talking ill about anything carry. But it does suck when your laptop doesn’t fit into the trays provided at most of the airports…
Our hope for Carryology has always been to have a broad base of contributing Carryologists, from designers to retailers and core users. Today we welcome Taylor to the fold, an Industrial Designer that has been designing bags for several years, many of which you may even own or have used.
We’ve asked Taylor to introduce himself, and talk a little about his love of carry. And there’s a few surprises in there…
Does anyone actually know what crab sticks are made from? The highly refined white flesh has lost all semblance to whatever creatures it originated from. Crab sticks can fill a hole, but you certainly don’t feel wonderful after their consumption.
Notice any similarities with the product world?
As carry goods have been refined and outsourced and mass produced, we’ve started to create carry crab sticks. But it does not have to be this way, and the five carry makers we look at here are proving that product can still have soul…
This is one of those bags that you see pop up everywhere, reaching icon status with that broad silhouette and bling seat belt buckle. And as with any iconic bag, there are also reviews everywhere. The internet has filled it’s silicon warehouse with dissections and discussions about the Metropolis, looking for insights into a seriously long lasting (sales and production wise) bag.
As the Carryology community grows, we thought it would be nice to start introducing our new contributors. And what better way than to find out what they carry…

Road Tested | Chrome Ivan roll-top Part 1&2
We’ve had this backpack for some time, so thought we’d roll parts 1 & 2 of the road test together. We can’t promise that this will make the review twice as good, but we’ll try…
The Ivan is one of three sizes in Chrome roll-top backpacks – there’s also a smaller Pawn, and the larger Sultan. They are all built the same way, just with a different scale applied.
This is a great bag, and also one that helped kick-start a new style of backpack. So here goes with our thoughts on it…
The growth and support that has been happening around Carryology is amazing. We feel really fortunate to be a part of the carry community finding a voice.
The initial idea and seeding for the blog came from a few of our contributors, who have also been working on another project. That project is called Bellroy, which has just launched a series of really interesting wallets…
With the burgeoning electric car market, large investments in wind power, sustainable farming and the like, there is no shortage of opportunities to be better global citizens. What surprises me, however, is that only until recently did we really start to take notice of a solution that is so simple, effective, and applicable to each and every one of us. Let’s talk about what you use to carry your groceries from the supermarket, your local co-op, or the Farmer’s market on Saturday mornings…
Dig or Diss | Bags that fall over.
This is a definite diss: It bites when you’re in line at the airport, train or even lining up for your tasty Chai Latte (w/honey) and you have some sort of roller bag kicking along with you on your travels and the thing falls over while you’re waiting.
And not just a simple fall over, nooooo. As Murphy’s Law would have it, your roller bag falls directly in to a young child who has just learnt how to balance on their own two feet, and is subsequently scared off walking for life. Or worse, it falls onto the feet of an elderly lady whose bones are so calcified that they shatter upon impact from the telescope handle…
We gotta avoid those bags that fall over.
Hilton Tent City x Baileyworks
So this is almost like a mix of a couple of posts, but also a post that is unique to itself. Confused yet? I am.
We have spoken about Tent City and we have shown you the review the Reverend gave us on the Baileyworks Super Pro. So while it’s pretty easy to become a jaded old cynic about branded co-ops getting released, this one between Hiltons and BW is pretty cool – it’s a BW SuperPro, in small, medium or large- each tricked out with some nifty one-off features.
Porter have a strong history of coming up with creative mobile storage options, whether it’s luggage, wallets, or even vacuum packs. So it’s a no brainer that Nikon would turn to Porter for range of camera carrying items.
The relationship between Nikon and Porter has been strong for a couple of years now, and with Porter’s tradition of aesthetic beauty and quality it’s no surprise that each range that drops tops the previous.
The Nike ACG Messenger has been on road test for the last couple of months by one of our carryologists. They actually purchased it long before we thought of running this Road Tested category so it works out quite well that he can give an in depth review…
Industry Insights | A giant in the bags world
Have you ever heard of VF Corp? Probably not, but we’re guessing you’ve used their products.
VF Corp owns brands such as Vans, Lee, Reef and Nautica. But where they really shine is in the bags world… Eagle Creek, Jansport, Eastpac, and The North Face are all part of the VF stable.
Back To School
As our Northern Hemisphere readers swelter under the summer sun, we thought it would be a good time to review school bags, ready for the return to study.
What’s good, what’s not, and what should help you avoid getting bullied…
