Racing Atelier Launch 2022 Line in Japan

Recently, we had the pleasure of doing a long term review of the magnificent Racing Atelier Rucksack #1. This masterpiece in design and engineering is traditionally very hard to come by. From its thoughtful design to curated materials, the packs from the design house are nothing short of a unicorn in the carry world.

And now, Leander Angerer has partnered with ARTS&SCIENCE Japan to give customers the chance to own 2022 Racing Atelier pieces (available exclusively in Japan) before they become available as custom orders the Bavarian brand.

Situated in the Bavarian Alps, Racing Atelier carve out their unique brand vibe by pairing modern fabrics in combination with natural materials, like locally sourced vegetable tanned leather. These modern-meets-heritage creations are the calling card of RA’s design and one of the many reasons they are so sought after. From the hand rolled leather to the custom cord work, these carry pieces are truly unique.

And in this new project, having previously worked on his Rucksack #1 with Dyneema® and Konbu®, Leander now uses Challenge Sailcloth Ultra® 800 to pair with his sumptuous leather.

There is something special about such a thoughtful pairing of leather and modern synthetic fabrics, with this Ultra® 800 collection, Leander has moved on from the often lauded Dyneema® in favour of the new woven synthetic, which increases durability. These packs aren’t for fast fashion or conversation topics, they are designed to be used and abused in the truest sense of the word. RA’s background is in the alps, the home of hiking, mountaineering, and biking. They are meant to be used, which is where Leanders fabric choices are so crucial. Leather will soften and break into the user, while the face fabric, Ultra® 800 in this case, will shave weight, provide weather resistance and maintain structure.
