Huckberry Releases Watch Collaboration with Italian Experts Unimatic

Huckberry is one of the best places on the internet for all things carry related, and in particular when it comes to adventure. Over the last few years, their collaborations and limited editions have become one of their defining characteristics. At Carry HQ we’re always excited to hear about them. This year, they’ve entered a new realm with Italian watchmaker Unimatic. We got our hands on the Huckberry x Unimatic Earthform collection.

Now I must confess, I am an Unimatic fan. For the past 6 years, I’ve owned one of their excellent U1 models, and I love it for its minimalist design, clean aesthetics, and trustworthy Swiss movement. I’m not alone in this admiration, it is one of the many reasons that Unimatic continues to garner attention from many horologists worldwide. Most of Unimatic’s offerings are inspired by vintage diving chronographs, with their easy to read bold dials and durable materials. They are a worthy upgrade to anyone’s wrist without breaking the bank.

Organic Inspiration

With the Earthform collection, two of the best have collaborated to combine strengths and release a nature inspired automatic watch. The Earthform collection comes in three variants: Sandstone, Lichen, and Redwood. Each watch is limited to 75 pieces, and comes with a custom Unimatic hard case, an interchangeable nato strap, and a card of authenticity including the limited edition number.

Aesthetically, these are beautiful timepieces. The collection is inspired by the colours and textures of the natural world around us. The three variants have their own unique strap colour, face design, and case engraving. These watches are a stellar example of the type of inspired design that Unimatic are known for in their craftsmanship and collaboration projects. 

The Sandstone variant features a vibrant orange strap, a gradient face, and waved caseback influenced by the undulations found in the weathered sandstone. The Redwood variant has a vibrant rich green face and strap, with a mottled caseback inspired by the mossy undergrowths of the forest floor. The third of the trio, Lichen, is a subtle homage to the symbiotic organism that sustains life with its nutrient dense biology. All three are stunning in their own right, and as a collection they truly represent some of the best the natural world has to offer!

Swiss Powered

As nice as they can look, watches are made to tell the time! When spending $1000 on a watch, it’s important that it does that well. Under the hood, the inner workings are just as impressive as the exterior facade. The U4-S is powered by the automatic calibre Sellita SW200-1 movement, a reliable movement that’ll keep you on time for your next adventure. A healthy C5 Super-Luminova® lume keeps the dials visible at all hours of the day, and compliments all three styles nicely.

The stainless steel case is sandblasted to provide a muted and understated look while maintaining a robust demeanour to tackle travels the world over. This spirit of adventure is enhanced by a 300m water resistance, encouraging you to take this to the depths on your adventures. The rear casing is branded by Unimatic and Huckberry, and it is also individually numbered. The TPU strap is cleanly branded, and you are also provided with a gray nylon NATO strap, should you want to change up the style occasionally.

Italian Made

These watches are handmade in Italy, and the microbrand is the type of story we love to hear at Carry HQ. In 2015 when industrial designers Giovanni Moro and Simone Nunziato decided to overhaul the divers watch, Unimatic was born. Eight years later, they go from strength to strength with each of their collaborations, and this exuberant collection is a wonderful homage to their skills. 

When handling an Unimatic, it’s easy to see their attention to detail on every part of the watch. The branded buckle, the presentation box, and the perfect crown are just a few examples that demonstrate a product and brand that is making its own way, rather than following others.

Unimatic and Huckberry are a great partnership as they are both disruptors in their industries, and continue to be so.
