Filson Restoration Department Create Limited Edition White Oak Denim Duffle

The PNW powerhouse Filson are purveyors of all things rugged and outdoors. Their Mackinaw Wool jackets are lusted after, their collaborations are hunted down vigorously, and their tin-cloth bags could tell stories befitting a pulp fiction novel. A lot of Filson’s products definitely fit the “heirloom” status, and even more so when they are put together by the in-house wizards at the Filson Restoration Department.

The Filson Restoration Department does exactly what it says on the tin and was created to help reduce the amount of waste going into landfills. Filson products are tough, and with a little bit of love (or maybe some new stitching!) their bags and jackets can go on to live for another few generations! Not only do they restore damaged or worn out products, occasionally they get the chance to create something special, and that’s exactly what they’ve done here with the Filson Barrel Duffle Bag.

Built in the Filson Workshop in Seattle by Jon and Will, these Barrel Bags are “Lot Three” of FRD’s collection, there is also an equally impressive tote available too! The Barrel Duffle bag is made out of USA Made denim. Not just any denim, but deadstock fabric from Cone Denim Mills’ iconic White Oak factory. From 1891-2017 Cone Denim® created some of the most sought after and rugged denim in their Greensboro NC facility, and it was the fabric of choice for such a special creation at FRD. 

The 14.5-oz rugged denim is the star of the show here, it is a hard wearing vintage fabric that will only get better with age, and take on a life of its own. Rich in colour and unique in pattern, this is a duffle befitting of adventures into the wild. On one end of the bag you’ll find a grab handle, while the opposite end features a slip pocket for quick access items. 

Both the removable strap and the wrap are 2” thick cotton webbing, encircling the duffel completely for extra durability when carrying those heavier loads. Brass YKK #10 manage the access to this one of a kind piece. Internally, the barrel bag is lined with heavy duty organic cotton to provide a little more structure. You’ll also find a detachable snap pocket for valuables, a feature taken from some of Filson’s iconic backpacks. All of the hardware on the Barrel Duffle Bag is brass, so a lifetime of rust free carrying is in your future! Each bag is individually hand stamped on the leather patch, to remind you that you are part of an elite club.
