Week In Review ~ 19 January

What do bison, folding wheels and avoiding a flat laptop battery while on the go all have in common? Clue: it’s got nothing to do with bison riding bikes that power their laptops (though that would be amazing…). Okay we’ll tell you – they’re all in this Week In Review.

Behind the scenes in the carry candy shop

Week In Review ~ 19 January

Ever wondered what the workshops of luxury brands look like? Well you don’t need to wonder anymore because you can get a behind the scenes look at the workshop of Parabellum, a Los Angeles based brand who create luxury carry goods and accessories using first-rate bison leather. You can also check out their goods directly here (and it wouldn’t be a luxury brand without the price tags, so don’t say we didn’t warn you…though there’s no denying the pieces are beautiful).

Clever wheel design comes full circle

Week In Review ~ 19 January

It’s not a traditional carry item but this design is just really cool so we had to highlight it. The Morph Folding Wheelchair Wheel, designed by Vitamins for Maddak Inc., has been shortlisted for the Design Museum’s Design of the Year Award 2013. It looks like a stylish means of making wheelchair storage and carry a lot more convenient.

Nexiom’s packing the power

Week In Review ~ 19 January

The problem with using gadgets whilst on the move is that often there’s no handy power source nearby to recharge them when the battery goes flat. So how about carrying your own power source along with your gadgets in a handy bag? Nexiom’s AMPT Smart Bag incorporates Nexiom’s Power Slate batteries (thin batteries that resemble iPads in terms of dimensions). The bag holds a laptop on one side and smaller gadgets such as phones and tablets on the other side, which can all be connected to batteries for recharging. Not sure how comfortable this bag would be to carry for any extended period of time but portable power sources are not to be sniffed at.

The Terrific Top Three

Week In Review ~ 19 January

We announced the winners of our 2012 Carry Awards but there were a lot of requests to find out how other bags fared so we’ve assembled the podium finishes for each of the categories. A big thanks again to everyone who took part, we really appreciate it and no doubt all the participating bag brands do as well!

GORUCK delivers the details

Week In Review ~ 19 January

Fan of GORUCK? Then you’ll definitely want to check out our latest Carry Conversation. We chatted with GORUCK’s founders, Jason McCarthy and Jack Barley, and got some insight into the brand and the people who shape it. There’s a fair amount of discussion in the comments as well which you may be keen to check out.
