The Best Backpacks for Everyday Carry

by , March 29, 2017

Choosing an EDC backpack deserves careful consideration. After all, it’s going to be your daily companion for years to come, so you want to ensure it suits your needs and tastes, both from a functional and aesthetic standpoint. So what makes an epic everyday carry backpack?

You never know where the day (or night) might lead, so it’s good to have a bag that can keep up. Get more out of your gear by opting for a backpack with the aesthetics and feature set to adapt to changing needs and environments, such as pivoting from work or school settings into outdoor, sport or short travel scenarios.

The degree of organization depends on what you’re going to carry in it. Make sure it can handle your daily tools and carry items such as snacks, an outer layer, tech devices and small EDC items.

Avoid unnecessary strain by choosing a bag that’s comfortable for the commute to work or school. Features such as suitable padding, a waist belt and sternum strap, wide shoulder straps and sufficient ventilation all play their part in keeping you comfy on the go.

You don’t want your bag to fall apart after only a few months of use. Opt for a pack that can handle the daily grind for years on end.

REALLY surprised none of the Booq backpacks are mentioned. I can’t speak for the regular ones, but the popular ones like Pack Pro, Boa Squeeze and daypack. From these, Pack Pro is by far the best backpack that I’ve ever owned.

I’ve never heard of Booq. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Paolo Girolami

I’m more surprised not to see at least an Osprey pack considering their 24/7 line offers a lot of options. That said, it’s impossible to include all brands all the time and the selection is very nice: plenty of packs I had never heard of. Thanks for the article!

Sadly, I see no leather bags, not even Von Baer or Saddleback. I love the Von Baer’s Casual Vintage Backpack for the office and short business trips.

  • John Perry

These backpacks look good but for me my favorite pack is from urbanmountainpakks, the owner is a small business that makes backpacks for the outdoors and Im sure any of his packs can be used as an edc pack, I love his packs they are large and strong made here in the USA one by one and most important to me they are handmade.
