Carry Portraits Exhibition

by , October 24, 2016

We love seeing what others carry. When everything’s laid out, the objects in neat grids, it helps us really gain insight into someone’s life, how they portray themselves, and what they value. So at the launch of our Carryology Store we held a carry portraits exhibition. A celebration of carry in its simplest form, featuring contributors from across the world. Enjoy!

Carry Portraits Brook James

“This is my daily carry, pretty mellow for a photographer. I’ve got 24-200mm covered and prefer to make do with only the essentials; I upgrade and add only when I have to. If I don’t need to use it on the reg, it comes out of the bag.”

BROOK JAMES – Coburg, Australia
Photographer & VW Van Enthusiast

Carry Portraits Lincoln Stolz

“I cycle 350-400 km per week, around 12-15 hours of riding. What I take on my rides is a combination of fuel to keep me going and gear to help me perform. It needs to be compact and tough enough to thrive in the Surf Coast’s 28 different seasons.”

LINCOLN STOLZ – Torquay, Australia
Cyclist and Apparel Designer

Carry Portraits Exhibition John Dunaway

“My carry is all about optimization and durability. Whether on the ocean or in the woods, I head out the door with gear that can take my abuse because life requires my attention, not poor quality. Getting gear is not a search, it’s a targeted retrieval.”

JOHN DUNAWAY – Roaming through Texas
Outdoorsman and Boat Captain

Carry Portraits Exhibition Bo Ismono

“As a film editor, I often work on different workstations and have to carry different gear and equipment. This forces me to switch stuff inside my bag on the fly, which is why I like to use a lot of cubes and pouches to organize my bag and keep everything modular.”

BO ISMONO – Hamburg, Germany
Film Editor

Carry Portraits Exhibition Colton Tong

“My philosophy is pretty simple: pack it right and pack it tight on a daily.”

COLTON TONG – Portland, USA

Carry Portraits Exhibition Daniel Beltrá

“I like my gear to be inconspicuous while I go as light as possible. My MindShift backpack carries comfortably everything I need but doesn’t look like I have an expensive camera kit.”

DANIEL BELTRÁ – Madrid, Spain
Conservation Photographer

Woody Carry Portraits Exhibition

“My Incase backpack has racked up millions of frequent flyer miles over the years. It’s got more pockets than Eddie Charlton and it’s like the Tardis, bigger than it looks. Everything I need to conquer life’s peculiar challenges fits snugly inside.”

WOODY – Fitzroy, Australia
Founder at Sneaker Freaker

Carry Portraits Exhibition J Masamori

“I just picked up the Leica M6. I’ve only put a few rolls through it so far but I’m really excited to use it as more of my daily carry camera when my Hasselblad is too bulky. I’ve got a 35mm lens which I’ve already decided I’ll never swap for anything. It’s the perfect focal length for an everyday lens. The rest of my daily carry is best described as minimalist.”

JEFF MASAMORI – San Francisco, USA
Photographer at Huckberry

Carry Portraits Exhibition Trent Mitchell

TRENT MITCHELL – Gold Coast, Australia

Carry Portraits Taay Ninh

“Travelling has to be streamlined when you tour because you often run on very little. Everything I carry needs to be tough with easy access and organisation. It also has to have that visual appeal – it’s gotta look and feel good too.”

TAAY NINH – Auckland, New Zealand
Producer / Musician with Electric Wire Hustle

Carry Portraits Exhibition Callum Preston Everfresh

“My work varies a lot, so while there are staples to what I carry (laptop, camera, notebook) the additions are always unpredictable. It can be anything from a nail-gun, hammer, saw, a lighting kit, VHS camera, tripods, paint rollers, ladders, spraycans and I love recycling found objects, so I’ll usually end up grabbing something I find along the way too.”

CALLUM PRESTON aka THE TOOTH – Fitzroy, Australia
Artist at Everfresh

Carry Portraits Jordan Schau

 jordan schau

“What I carry all comes down to what I want on my back for my commute. I tend to gravitate towards things that are light and compact but also durable. I dig dark blacks, warm browns, and a pop of color. objects, so I’ll usually end up grabbing something I find along the way too.”

JORDAN SCHAU – Los Angeles, USA
Founder at Pure Cycles

mez-carry

“The most important thing when travelling is to keep my tattoo machines and supplies stable, that’s why I place them in a snug compact briefcase. My loose items and essentials (e.g. sketch books) go in my tote bag. And everything’s all black – always.”

MEZ AFRAM – Melbourne, Australia
Tattoo Artist

“My carry style could probably be described, for lack of a better term, as compartmentalized. I tend to travel quite a bit so I have several pre-packed sets of essentials that I can just grab and know that I have everything I need. So I have my little office kits, work travel kits and outdoor kits that have everything I need for where I’m headed and can be quickly added a la carte to whatever larger bag I’m taking for the day.”

JEDD ROSE – Denver, USA
Co-Founder at Topo Designs

EUNICE LIM – Kuala Lampur, Malaysia

Carry Portraits Exhibition Jacob Fout

“Modern tech with vintage spirit. Like most of us, we spend a lot of time at the helm of a computer. I make sure to have what is necessary to get away from the screen for a midday doodle or to get outside to find inspiration.”

JACOB FOUT – Chicago, USA
Graphic Designer at Gregory Packs

Carry Portraits Exhibition Ian Hiebert

“My carry philosophy is all about the ‘what if’ game. What if I get thirsty, what if I want to sit outside and write, what if my bike gets a flat, etc. I try to pack the essential tools I need to capture the moment, write down my ideas, and not get bored.”

IAN HIEBERT – San Francisco, USA
Marketing at Boreas

Anjo Miranda

“Perhaps as important to me as experiencing the world, is my ability to capture it. Being able to pack the necessary tools and equipment I need whilst managing to travel light is essential, as is conveying my personal style. It allows me to feel confident and be myself in a new environment.”
