5 craft based carry makers
Does anyone actually know what crab sticks are made from? The highly refined white flesh has lost all semblance to whatever creatures it originated from. Crab sticks can fill a hole, but you certainly don’t feel wonderful after their consumption.
Notice any similarities with the product world?
As carry goods have been refined and outsourced and mass produced, we’ve started to create carry crab sticks. But it does not have to be this way, and the five carry makers we look at here are proving that product can still have soul…

Road Tested | Chrome Ivan roll-top Part 1&2
We’ve had this backpack for some time, so thought we’d roll parts 1 & 2 of the road test together. We can’t promise that this will make the review twice as good, but we’ll try…
The Ivan is one of three sizes in Chrome roll-top backpacks – there’s also a smaller Pawn, and the larger Sultan. They are all built the same way, just with a different scale applied.
This is a great bag, and also one that helped kick-start a new style of backpack. So here goes with our thoughts on it…

Back To School
As our Northern Hemisphere readers swelter under the summer sun, we thought it would be a good time to review school bags, ready for the return to study.
What’s good, what’s not, and what should help you avoid getting bullied…

Carry Retailers | Hilton’s Tent City
There are SOOOOO many bags in this world. Gazillions of them. And most of them are kinda crap. So while we try and help you navigate the clutter online, if you need to try a bag out in the flesh a good bricks and mortar retailer is invaluable .
Today we wanted to have a quick look at one of those retailers…

Susu Umbrella Holder
This is the sort of thing we would normally just tweet about, but the Susu umbrella case with ’super absorption power’ kinda won us over. This thing is just a great carry product.

Scottevest has been around for a decade now, but we’d never really thought to post about them. Then an article from Core77, pinged to us from Aaron at Knog, and we figure it’s time to share this special kind of weirdness…

Road Tested | Mission Workshop Vandal | Part 2
Mid test summary
So I’ve been using the Vandal for well over a month now, with both daily ritual and interstate trips covered. It’s a great pack, and is holding up well to the abuse.
The Mission Workshop guys were awesome in sending us this pack, and also in agreeing that we shouldn’t hold back. So I want to cover both the highlights, and the areas that I think could be improved.
As always, this is an honest review of both the good and the not as good. We’re just lucky that the pack is mostly good… really good.

Why did we not evolve with a pouch on our fronts?
Carrying a baby is so easy for kangaroos, but a right bother for we humans, and I’m suffering. I’ve been hauling our little sumo for 8 months now, and my back is over it.
So that means it’s time to get our head around baby carrying in a way that will help me, but more importantly, hopefully help others avoid some of the pain…

Our favorite Women’s wallets
If you want to view a larger version of the image above, click [HERE]
It’s funny that wallets have ended up like formal wear – while there is comparatively little difference amongst men’s, women have a huge range and variety.
We have selected some of our favourite women’s wallets. These include both pocket sized and handbag sized, with each having at least a little something special…

The Anti Wallet
No matter how small you can make a wallet, it will still be too big for some.
So crew start cutting and hacking and unearthing all sorts of ways to carry their pocket contents without the traditional wallets they are trying hard to avoid.
We’ve collected a few of the ‘anti wallet’ strategies we’ve seen over the years, and tried to share some examples of the better ones. As always, if we’ve missed something, or you have better examples, we’d love to hear from you…

I’ve wanted to get my hands on a Mission Workshop pack from the moment I saw one… (cue cheesy music)
The guys that helped kick start Chrome bags have moved on and started afresh. Their Vandal and Rambler packs are roll-tops like the Chrome line-up, but with the ideas pushed further.
They’ve been good enough to send us a Vandal (the larger of the two), and we’re currently busy putting it through it’s paces…

Choosing good rolling luggage
When traveling, a good bag is one you don’t notice. Your trip should be all about your trip, not dragging a failing bag through customs as the zips split, the wheels seize, and the seams fall apart.
But picking good luggage is not an obvious thing. Small details can grow to be big issues half way through a round the world ticket.
So we’re going to talk about wheeled luggage for traveling to paved areas, and we’ll try to pass on some of the tips we’ve learned working in this game for so darn long…

Coins are a nuisance in most wallets. They bulge irregularly, can cause cards to break, and generally get in the way.
While kangaroos are known for their unique carrying pouches, they also have a body part that can make for a great coin purse…

Our favorite Men’s wallets
For the full size version of the poster click [HERE]
Wallets are a reasonably passive product. They sit all day in your pocket for just 15 seconds of daily fame.
Yet most wallets are designed only for that 15 seconds of use. Sure, they display your cards and look OK, but what about all that pocket time?
So we’re looking at 6 wallets that have thought about staying slim and out of the way. If you carry a Costanza, this is not the post for you…

Do you have anything a little less… outrageously expensive?
That’s a thought that runs through anyone’s head space when purchasing an item, a little bit cheaper would always help. It’s a question I asked today when when trying to buy a heater for the ice box I live in… Whether or not you actually ask the salesperson is a different matter entirely.
Thanks to some input from the Twitterverse, we’re realising that our price sensitivity here @Carryology is perhaps a little blunter than many others when it comes to carry goods.

How will you carry your iPad?
So the Kindle killer has finally started shipping, and accessory makers are scrambling to get iPad sleeves ready for your new toy. While we are still waiting for ours to arrive, we’ve been pouring over the available options online, and thinking through just what a good option will be.
Having only seen these on screen, here are the sleeves we are leaning towards…

Weekender bags
Steve McQueen. God bless him. Apart from having nothing to do with Carryology, unless you count carrying style – boom tish*, a great joke people. Embrace it. Anyway, back to McQueen, nothing to do with carryology. But the image above invokes ideas of getting away for the weekend, packing the car up and bailing…. Good times abound for sure.
So to help you with your spontaneous weekend plans, we have devised a list of weekender styled bags. Bags that won’t look out of place in Monaco, St Tropez or the Great Ocean Road (or Dubbo if you’re that way inclined). Bags that are good for a weekend. A casual weekend…
