Week In Review ~ 2 February
The weekend is upon us and what better way to welcome it in than by scoping out some cool carry news? Yeah, we thought so too. This Week In Review highlights a new backpack and duffle, plus some industry news on what might be appearing in your carry collection soon.
Defy branches out
Week In Review ~ 2 February
Defy Bags are predominantly known for their messengers but now they’re stepping out into uncharted territory with their first backpack offering, appropriately named the Lug. The backpack is constructed out of Cordura with a 20 oz vinyl truck tarp lining. Portability is either via the top handle or the padded shoulder straps and there’s a larger zipped pocket in addition to the smaller slip pockets. The pack also has a separate interior compartment that is large enough to accommodate a 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Shining the spotlight: Modern Industry
Week In Review ~ 2 February
Modern Industry recently successfully funded their Kickstarter campaign. Perhaps you were one of the people who contributed to their campaign or alternatively you’re just keen to find out more about this up-and-coming brand. Well we got some insights from Modern Industry (plus a scope around their workspace) which provide some nice background on the brand itself and their bags. Check out the post here.
Outdoor Retailer: Best in Show
Week In Review ~ 2 February
Gear Junkie has put together some Best in Show picks from the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow for winter 2013. Included in the compilation is the Osprey Portal Series, which enables access to your tablet touchscreen without having to remove it from the pack or bag. Other interesting carry developments on the horizon are two waterproof Mountain Hardwear packs (note: waterproof in this case does not equate to submersible, but rather that the packs can be utilized indefinitely in rain). The packs will incorporate a bonded membrane called OutDry (bonded to the external layer of the packs) in order to achieve waterproofness. You can see the full selection of Best in Show picks here.
Sleek and streamlined
Week In Review ~ 2 February
Stone Island has collaborated with Ortlieb to produce this Drybags Duffle, which is 100% waterproof and airtight. This is a nice-looking duffle, though for €275 (about $375), you’d probably expect something more durable than the plastic hardware incorporated in the bag.
