Johnson’s Daily Haul
Johnson: When it comes to the weekday grind of heading to and from work, it feels better to have something bigger than what you need, rather than something that will just do the job. Who knows what the day will bring… you could get something in the mail, you may need to swing by the grocery store on the way home, or you might even win the meat tray at your local RSL.
My Chrome Metropolis is what I currently haul to get me through the week. Used daily for work, and every now and then for school, it fits what I need when I need.
I’m usually adding some extras, whether mail and food on the inside, or clips and pouches on the outside. I’m a hoarder, and generally over prepared. So not all items are used daily, but rather are waiting at my disposal for when I do need them.
Everyone has these items, the ones they don’t really need all the time but like to keep handy for that just in case scenario. My main one would be my camera. Have you ever seen something and thought “I wish I had my camera”? My hoarding cuts down on those disappointments.

Interesting that you choose to carry a bag bigger than you need. I’ve just done the opposite and swapped to a smaller bag just big enough to fit what I usually carry. I also keep a cotton shopping bag bundled up in there in case I need extra carrying capacity.

I understand the idea of wanting to go smaller than larger in a bag. And those cotton shopping bags (assuming we are talking about “green” grocery bags) are great if you have the ones that fold up into itself. Just put it in your bag and forget about it until needed. My girlfriend generally has 2 in her purse at anyone time.
I just like not having my hands full, hence the bigger bag. It makes it easier if you are reaching for your keys or wallet in your back pocket when you aren’t juggling extra cargo in your hands. There is also the convenience of getting to work or home and just grabbing your keys out of the ignition and bag off the seat and be done with it.
I guess I should also add that I have a couple of larger bag options (small Crumpler and a bigger Bagaboo) that I can still grab if I’m going to carry more stuff than my Tom Bihn medium cafe bag will carry.
